Artist Mandy Johnston approached the Vukuza Mama's to create french knitted copper wire for an artwork.

Knitting is among the the many skills the Mama's posses and so they took to the task with gusto.

The task involved knitting 100m of knitted copper. Mandy provided them with the cotton reels (that some of us still remember)and sufficient length of copper wire. Mandy paid the ladies not only in rand, but also gave them each a set of earings sher herself designed and manufactured.
